What is a .rw2 file?
An RW2 file is Panasonic's RAW format for Lumix cameras, holding the raw sensor data plus embedded lens-correction parameters that editors apply on open — Micro Four Thirds and Lumix full-frame lenses rely on those corrections for their intended rendering. A JPEG preview and full EXIF ride along in the file.
You'll find .rw2 files coming from Panasonic Lumix bodies — the GH5, GH6 and GH7, S5 series, G9 and G9 II, and LX100 compacts.
Why won't a .rw2 file open on my computer?
RW2 files don't open in browsers or most bundled viewers, and because the format leans on embedded correction metadata, tools without proper RW2 support show distorted or vignetted images even when they can decode the pixels.
Pholara sidesteps all of that: LibRaw — the same decoder behind many desktop RAW tools — runs as WebAssembly in your browser, so a current Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari is all you need.
Save it as JPEG — or actually edit it
Once your photo is decoded you can download it as a full-resolution JPEG (there's also a dedicated RAW to JPEG converter), or jump straight into the full editor — tone curves, white balance, HSL, lens corrections and more, all free with no account.
